China is dead set on making the metaverse even more awkward with a smartphone accessory that mimics kissing by replicating human lips' pressure, movement, and temperature. According to Global Times, Remote Kiss is a mouth-shaped Bluetooth device invented by a team of university students in East China's Jiangsu Province that plugs straight into your smartphone and syncs through an app. Once downloaded, users can "couple up" with one another and transfer an intimate gesture via video, allowing them to make out—virtually--with anyone connected to the app. The lead inventor, Jiang Zhongli, credits the design to a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend, where phone calls were their only contact. His patent, obtained in 2019, ended in January of this year, but it's only a matter of time before we start seeing randos getting their freak on with prosthetic lips here in the US and I can't help but wonder... How did we get here? \
